Found a squirrel nest in a flue that was 'just cleaned' last Tuesday
Got a call for a smoky fireplace in the Oak Park area, and the homeowner swore they had a sweep out just a few days ago. Pulled the cap and found a whole nest of leaves and acorns packed right under it. The guy they hired must have just looked up from the bottom and called it good. Anyone else run into this kind of 'quick clean' mess lately?

Oh man, that's rough. I read a local news story last month about a house fire that started exactly like that. The fire marshal said the so-called sweep never even went on the roof, just ran a brush from below and left. The nest blocked everything and the next time they lit a fire, it caught the whole chimney chase on fire. It's scary how some people cut corners like that. Makes you want to ask for before and after photos or something.

Yeah, asking for photos is smart. I should probably do that, but knowing me, I'd just trust the guy who shows up with a big brush and a sad story about his back. My version of checking the work is squinting at the roof from the driveway and thinking, "Yep, looks like a roof.
