Kids are climbing on the clay liner sections and it drives me nuts
Around here in Springfield, a lot of homeowners have those cracked clay flue liners sticking up past the crown, and I keep seeing people leave them exposed after a re-line. Last Tuesday on a job, the homeowner's kid was literally using the broken lip as a step to reach a ball on the roof. I always cut those flush or cap them, but maybe I'm just paranoid. Do you all get called out for that, or do you just flag it and move on?

Oh yeah, kids will find a way to climb anything, but I don't think cutting those flush is paranoid at all. The clay gets brittle after years of weather and that broken lip can snap off real easy under a kid's weight, which is a whole different kind of call back. I'd say it's worth the extra time to cap or cut them, even if the homeowner doesn't ask for it.
