Shoutout to the old lady on Maple Street who tipped me with homemade cookies
I had a day last Tuesday that totally made up for the rough week before. I was doing a routine sweep over on Maple Street, just a standard job for a little 1950s ranch house. The owner was this sweet older woman, maybe 80 years old, and she watched me work the whole time from her kitchen window. When I finished and showed her the before and after photos (you know, the disgusting creosote chunks), she gasped and handed me a tin of chocolate chip cookies. She said her husband used to do the chimney himself until he passed 5 years ago, and she'd been too scared to hire anyone. I ended up spending an extra 20 minutes showing her how to check the damper and what sounds are normal. The cookies were still warm, and I swear they were the best thing I've eaten in months. Has anyone else ever gotten a tip that was just way better than cash?

Yeah but "literal dirty work" doesn't mean you can't appreciate a nice gesture. Warm homemade cookies hit different when someone's actually grateful for the job you did.
