Shoutout to the old-timer at the hardware store in Boise

He said he never uses a brush smaller than 8 inches for a standard flue, even if it's a tight fit. I've been using a 6 inch for years thinking it was better for the tile. Anyone else follow that rule?

My uncle ran a chimney service in Twin Falls for forty years and drilled the same thing into my head. He said a six inch brush just rides the tile and leaves a ton of creosote in the corners. I switched to an eight inch stiff wire brush and the difference in the crap that falls out is unreal. That old guy in Boise knows his stuff.

Wait, is that much buildup really a fire hazard though? I mean my six inch brush seems to get the job done fine.

Can confirm, the corners get nasty.
