Swore by steel brushes for 12 years, one look inside a Vermont flue changed my mind
Last month a homeowner in Rutland asked me to re-clean a flue I'd done two weeks earlier with my usual steel brush, and when I ran a poly brush down it instead, the soot that came out filled half a bucket. Turns out the steel bristles were polishing the creosote glaze smooth so it looked clean but stayed stuck to the tile. Any of you made the switch to poly for glazed flues, or do you keep both on the truck?
