That Thursday in March when I found 9 inches of creosote in a rental on Oak Street
I got called out to a rental house on Oak Street a few weeks back because the tenant kept smelling smoke in the living room. Pulled the brush down and it came out looking like a burnt log, 9 inches of shiny glazed creosote packed solid in a 6 inch flue. Turns out the landlord had been burning green pine from a buddy's lot for two winters straight and never had it swept once. I had to rotary loop the whole thing in stages, took me almost 4 hours and two brushes, and I still had to tell him it needed a second pass in 30 days. Any of you guys got a go-to move for talking landlords into yearly sweeps before it gets that bad?

Once you show them pics of the glazed stuff they usually fold pretty quick.
