TIL my old way of checking for blockages was a waste of time
For years I'd just shine a light up and call it good, but a job in Boulder last month proved that wrong. The homeowner had a full nest packed down six inches from the top that my light never touched, so now I run the camera every single time. Anyone else get burned by skipping a step they thought was optional?

Notice how often we trust the easy check over the real one. My phone says the update installed, but the old bug is still there. We learn the hard way that shortcuts usually aren't.

Ever wonder how many nests you missed before getting that camera?

Read a study about how birdwatchers with cameras actually spot fewer species. They get focused on the shot. Makes me think wrenh65 is onto something about trusting the easy check.
