Tuesday was a nightmare with a chimney fire in Medford

Had a call Tuesday morning for a chimney fire in Medford, homeowner had been burning pine all winter and the creosote was thick as a brick. What's the worst buildup you've pulled out of a flue?

Pine is basically nature's creosote factory, I swear that stuff turns to glue the second it hits a cold flue. Bet that homeowner is still finding soot in places they didn't know existed.

Man, I stopped burning pine years ago after cleaning my chimney once. Nightmare fuel.

thick as a brick" lol yeah I've seen that. pulled out a full 4 inch log of creosote from a fireplace once, looked like a black tree trunk. homeowner swore they only burned seasoned wood. sure buddy. pine is the devil for this stuff, makes that fluffy crust that builds up fast.
