Wire brushes vs drill attachments, I was wrong about the drill setup

For years I swore by hand wire brushes on masonry flues, thought the drill attachments would gouge the liner. Tried a flexible rod with a round brush on a rental unit in Columbus last month, cut my time in half and the liner looked cleaner. Anyone else made the switch and checked the liner after, any damage issues?

Quit fighting it and just try the drill attachment already. I was the same way, swore my hand brush was the only safe way, then I used a flexible rod on a chimney in Dayton and felt like an idiot for all those years of elbow grease. Checked the liner with a camera after, zero gouges, just some normal wear from years of use. The key is to NOT lean into it like you're trying to scrub a burnt pan, let the tool do the work. Honestly, the only damage I've seen is from people using the wrong size brush or going too fast. So yeah, hand brushes are for folks who like sore shoulders and extra time on the clock.
