Bought a $400 ebike kit instead of a used Leaf, and I'm second guessing it

Was looking at a 2013 Leaf for $4500 to cut my 22 mile commute, but went with the kit on my old hardtail instead since I could charge it at work for free. Now I'm wondering if I should've just gone with the car for winter, anyone else been here?
