Heard a guy at the coffee shop say solar panels are a scam because they don't work in winter

I was getting my coffee yesterday morning and this dude is loudly telling his friend that solar is useless because his neighbor's panels barely produce anything from December to February. I wanted to butt in and say yeah no kidding, the sun barely shines for 8 hours in winter and it's low in the sky. But the neighbor still saves $80 a month even in the bad months and his summer bills are basically zero. Has anyone else run into people who just look at one part of the year and write off the whole thing?

Is it really that big of a deal though? Like yeah the guy was being dramatic but he's not totally wrong, winter production sucks for most panels. I mean we get like 5 hours of dim sun here in January and my setup barely covers the fridge. Still saves me some cash over the year but people act like it's some life changing thing when it's really just a small dent in the bill.

Did you try tilting them steeper for winter... that helped mine a ton when the sun got low.
