I finally had a perfect recycling week and it made me feel invincible

Last Tuesday I sorted everything right for once. No pizza boxes with grease stains, no plastic bags in the wrong bin, even remembered to rinse out the peanut butter jar with hot water. My roommate walked in and said 'whoa, you actually did it right this time.' Then Thursday the recycling truck actually showed up on schedule and didn't skip our street. Has anyone else had a week where your recycling game just clicked and you felt weirdly proud about it?

Oh man, I once spent like 20 minutes cleaning a jar so thoroughly I could see my reflection in it before I realized I wasn't even recycling that week. Felt like a fool standing there with a spotless jar and nowhere to go.

Hold up, you gotta be careful with that peanut butter jar thing. Scrubbing them with hot water is actually a waste of water and effort if you're just tossing it in the recycling. The recycling plant uses high pressure jets and chemicals to clean things, so a quick scrape with a spatula to get the big chunks out is all you need. Leaving a thin layer of peanut butter is fine, it gets burned off or washed away in the process. Honestly, the bigger problem is plastic bags in the single-stream bin, which you already nailed. So you're basically invincible already, you just don't need to go full gourmet on the rinse.
