Just switched my stance on carbon offsets after seeing actual numbers
I used to think buying carbon offsets was just a way for companies to feel good without doing real work. But last month my neighbor showed me his spreadsheet from a local tree planting project he volunteers with. They planted 200 trees on 3 acres here in Portland and measured the carbon capture over 6 months. Seeing real data from a project I could actually drive to made me realize offsets can work if you pick the right ones. Has anyone else found a local project that changed their mind?

Agree completely, saw the same thing with a local wetlands project here and it changed my mind too.

You mention "seeing real data from a project I could actually drive to," but that's exactly my worry with this whole offset thing. A few trees on a small lot might show nice numbers on paper, but that doesn't prove the system works on a large scale where most offsets are bought for flights or big corporate emissions. I'd need to see proof that these projects actually store carbon for decades rather than just a few years before I could trust them as a serious solution.
