My brother in Phoenix says buying an EV is pointless because the grid runs on coal, and I can't tell if he has a point
He dropped that on me last week during a visit to Phoenix and I've been chewing on it since. His argument is that until the grid cleans up, charging an EV in Arizona is just burning coal with extra steps, and he says the mining for batteries causes its own mess. I get his flip side too, that gas cars pollute no matter what and buying an EV helps push the market. But I honestly don't know how to weigh local grid power against the lifetime of a gas engine. Anyone here actually run the numbers for their own state and come out sure one way or the other?
