My heat pump skepticism ended after one brutal July in Phoenix

I always figured heat pumps were for mild climates, but my AC died in late June and the quote for a new unit was $9,800. A local HVAC guy talked me into a cold-climate heat pump, saying it handles 115 degree days fine if sized right. It ran nonstop for two weeks during that triple digit stretch and my electric bill only went up $42 compared to last July. Anyone else in the Southwest willing to admit they were wrong about these things?
