PSA: My town's recycling center quit taking glass last month and nobody said a word
I showed up with two bins of jars last Saturday and the guy at the gate in Fresno just pointed at a sign I had walked past a hundred times. Turns out the program shut down quietly in September because it cost too much to truck it out, so everything I rinsed for a month went in the trash anyway. Does anyone know if there's a drop off site that still takes glass within 30 miles, or am I just storing jars forever now?

The part about rinsing stuff for a month that just went in the trash really hits home, same thing happened here in Modesto. What worked for me was checking with the smaller cities nearby instead of just my own, since their programs run on different contracts and some still take glass. I found a transfer station about 20 minutes out that has a mixed recycling bin out front, no questions asked, and they actually move it somewhere that sorts it. Worth calling your county's waste office too, they usually have a list they don't bother posting online.
