Six months ago I switched to a compost service instead of trashing my food scraps
I used to just throw everything in the trash without thinking about it. Then I moved to Portland and my neighbor mentioned she pays $15 a month for a pickup service. I figured why not try it for a month. Now I keep a little counter bin under the sink and empty it every Tuesday morning. The biggest surprise was how much less stinky my trash got, no more leaking bags or fruit fly problems. They gave me a free 5 gallon bucket and liner packs, so no extra hassle. The truck comes right to my alley on Tuesday mornings. Has anyone else found that curbside composting actually makes your kitchen feel cleaner?

Took me 30 years to realize the stink was mostly my own kitchen trash and not just the world being gross.

The compost pickup was a game changer for my kitchen too. No more gross juice leaks at the bottom of the can.

Used to think composting was just extra work for no real reason. Was totally wrong. Not having slimy trash juice all over the place is worth the little bin alone. Plus now my garbage can actually stays clean instead of needing a scrubdown every week. Kind of embarrassing how long it took me to get with the program on this one.
