$400 on a thermostat? That's insane. I paid like 30 bucks for a basic programmable one at Home Depot. It literally pays for itself in a month or two. You got ripped off hard.

Honestly, it reminds me of when my buddy spent $600 on a smart fridge that texts you when the milk's expired. Thing's been in his garage for two years because it doesn't fit through his kitchen doorway. He's gotta bring Bluetooth speakers out there just to hear it beep at him. Meanwhile, my $200 fridge from 2008 keeps my beer cold just fine. Sometimes you're just paying for the novelty, not the utility.

Right, because nothing says "energy savings" like dropping $400 on a glorified light switch. Your buddy's smart fridge story is the perfect example - half this stuff is just overpriced toys people buy to feel fancy. Maybe next time just tape a thermometer to the wall and call it a day.
