Talked to a farmer at the farmers market that completely shifted how I think about composting
Honestly, I was just grabbing some tomatoes last Saturday and got chatting with this older guy selling heirloom varieties. He told me he stopped using chemical fertilizers five years ago and just does heavy composting with food scraps from local restaurants. He said his soil is way healthier now and he saves like $2,000 a year on inputs. It hit different because I've been doing basic backyard composting but never thought about scaling it up or involving neighbors. He mentioned he even got a grant from the county to help with pickup costs. It made me wonder if more people did this collective composting thing, how much food waste we could actually keep out of landfills. Has anyone here tried a community compost share or worked with local farms on food waste pickup?

Careful with the word bin - you probably mean a compost bin or worm farm, not a garbage bin. Regular trash bins behind cafes attract rats and flies real fast. A proper compost setup with a tight lid and some carbon materials like leaves or shredded paper works way better. What kind of system did you put together?
