Tried switching my lawn to clover and the HOA sent me a nasty letter in 3 days

I ripped out half my front yard in Denver and seeded it with white clover last spring. Figured it would save water and look fine, but the HOA manager came by after 3 days and said it violated the 'uniform turf grass' rule. Honestly, my water bill dropped by $40 a month but now I'm fighting a $150 fine. Anybody else dealt with HOA rules blocking climate friendly choices?

HOA rules exist for a reason, you agreed to them when you moved in.

Fair point @paige427, but agreeing doesn't mean every rule makes sense. Some HOAs go too far with fines for tiny things like grass height or paint colors. It's more about power trips than keeping property values up sometimes.

Oh man, you hit the nail on the head. My own HOA once sent me a warning because my grass was a quarter inch too tall, and I almost lost it. I get that rules are rules, but sometimes it feels like they just want someone to boss around. Like, I can't even paint my front door a slightly different shade of gray without getting a passive aggressive note. Maybe I'm just bitter because they caught me sneaking in a new mailbox after dark. But seriously, a little flexibility goes a long way before it turns into a power trip.
