Unpopular opinion: using old soda bottles as plant waterers actually works better than those fancy drip spikes
I tried those $12 terracotta spikes from the garden center and they clogged within a week. But poking holes in a 2-liter Coke bottle and burying it neck-down near my tomatoes kept them watered through a 3-day heatwave without me touching it. Has anyone else hacked their irrigation this way?

Wait, aren't you supposed to bury it neck-up so the water actually drains out?

Depends on what you're burying and why, honestly. If it's just a jug with a spout or something, neck up seems like common sense so water doesn't pool around the opening. But I've seen plenty of people swear by neck down for certain things like beer can chickens or homemade traps. People get way too worked up about the right way to do stuff that barely matters in the long run.

Wait, people actually bury beer can chickens? That's wild.
