Update: I had to pick between a new electric car or fixing my old one for another year
My 2012 sedan needed a $2,000 repair, and I had the cash saved for a down payment on an EV. I fixed the old car, figuring keeping it running was better than the new car's footprint. Did I make the right call, or should I have gone electric?

Honestly, you probably made the smart move. My old car needed a new battery last year and the quote made me laugh, then cry. Felt like buying the whole car again. Keeping your current car on the road is almost always the greener choice anyway. All that new manufacturing has a big footprint. So yeah, I'd say you did good.

Remember my neighbor's hybrid battery costing more than his car.

Yeah, that's the big fear with older hybrids. I saw a report that battery replacement costs are finally starting to drop, though. Still a huge hit if it happens out of warranty.
