Walked past an old creek in my hometown that I swam in as a kid. It's completely dry now.
I went back to visit my parents in Fresno last weekend and took a stroll down by the creek behind the old middle school. Twenty years ago that water was deep enough to jump in from the rope swing. Now it's just cracked mud and some weeds. I asked my dad about it and he said they've been pumping groundwater so much for the almond orchards that the water table dropped something like 30 feet since 2005. It just hit me how fast things can disappear. Has anyone else seen a local spot change like that?

@rowanellis Droughts come and go but this is different. The creek ran year round for forty years before the well drilling went crazy. When they punch deeper wells for almonds it doesn't matter how much rain falls, the water table just keeps dropping. My uncle's old well went from 50 feet to 120 feet deep since 2010. That creek isn't coming back.
