Went with a heat pump water heater over a gas one, 6 months in

I had to pick between a hybrid heat pump water heater and a standard gas model for my house in Portland. The heat pump was $800 more upfront even with the rebate. But my electric bill dropped by like $25 a month since June and I'm not burning gas in the basement anymore. The catch is it takes up more space and the noise is a low hum that took me a week to get used to. If you have a tight closet or a cold garage it might not work as well. Anyone else make this switch and see similar savings or weird issues?

Made that switch last winter in Seattle. The noise thing is real, mine sits in the utility room and it sounds like a fridge that's trying too hard. Savings are about what you're seeing, $20-25 a month less on electric. One thing nobody warned me about is the condensation drain, had to rig up a little pump because mine sits below the sewer line. That was an annoying extra cost. Hope yours is working out better than the hiccups I had.

That condensation pump thing is a bummer, how much did that end up setting you back after everything was said and done? Just wondering if it's one of those things that's worth budgeting for upfront or if it's more of a rare pain in the neck.
