Finally got my boss to see that skipping the tool offset check after a warm-up cycle is why we scrap those first two parts every morning.
I started logging the scrap bin for a week and showed him the $200 in wasted material, and now we have a new rule to always touch off after the spindle runs for five minutes.

Sometimes you need the numbers to make it real.

Two hundred bucks a week, that's like a rounding error on most shop budgets though, right?

Wait, you had to prove it with a week's worth of scrap? That's wild. I can't believe the boss didn't just take your word for it when you said it was the warm-up cycle. Two hundred bucks in a week is crazy obvious.
