One bad fixture setup made me switch my whole work holding

Last Thursday in our shop near Toledo, I spent 3 hours fighting a soft jaw setup that kept pushing my part out of square, and the scrap pile grew by 7 pieces before I finally pulled the whole fixture off the table. I've been loyal to my old manual vice clamps for 8 years, but after watching our new guy dial in a vacuum plate in 20 minutes flat with zero movement, I realized the old way was just stubbornness. I bought a used vacuum pump off Craigslist for $150 and now I'm kicking myself for not making the switch sooner. Has anyone else had a specific job that made you abandon a method you always trusted?
