Pro tip: check your coolant lines before a long run, mine blew 2 hours into a 6 hour job
Ran a batch of 4140 steel parts last Thursday night and about 2 hours in I heard a pop then the alarm went off. Walked over and found coolant spraying everywhere from a line that had rubbed through against the way cover. Lost the insert, scrapped 3 parts, and spent 45 minutes mopping up before I could even start back up. Now I do a quick look at all the lines every Monday morning before the first run. Anybody got a trick for keeping those lines from rubbing, cause zip ties only last so long.
Watching your coolant line go full fire hydrant two hours into a six hour job is a special kind of pain, huh? Nothing like mopping up a rainbow puddle while you mentally add up the scrapped parts and the insert you just turned into confetti. Zip ties are basically a countdown timer with extra steps, they hold fine until the moment they don't. I've had decent luck wrapping the rub spots with that spiral wire loom stuff, the cheap split tube they sell for cable management. It takes the wear instead of the line and you can pop it off to check underneath. Just re-wrap it every couple months before it wears through, or you're right back to Shop Vac City.
