Spent a full day hunting down a .001 inch offset on a part that turned out to be a tiny chip in the collet

I was chasing it for 6 hours across three different machines before I finally noticed it with a magnifying glass, has anyone else had something dumb like that eat up a whole shift?

Cut a setup short once with a .002 dent from a tiny piece of tape left on a vise jaw from a previous job. Took me five hours across two mills before I wiped the jaw out of frustration and saw it stuck there. @sammoore you're right about bad luck but it still makes you feel like an idiot grinding through the whole day for nothing. Ever found something wedged in a tool holder that was invisible until you practically had the thing in pieces?

Man, a collet chip is just bad luck not really a dumb mistake on your part.
