That training seminar in Fort Wayne almost cost me a spindle

I went to a weekend CNC maintenance workshop at a shop outside Fort Wayne last September. The instructor showed us how to program a part with a new feed rate he claimed was 'safe for any tool.' I tried it on my Haas VF-2 Monday morning and got massive vibration within 50 parts. Turned out he was running on an older machine with a rigid tool holder, and my setup uses a side lock holder. Now I always test any new speeds on scrap aluminum first, no matter who recommends them. Has anyone else had a training tip backfire like that?

That part about "safe for any tool" got me too. I used to trust instructor advice pretty blindly until I wrecked an end mill trying their universal settings on my machine. Now I'm the same way, everything gets tested on scrap first before I risk a real part.

Tbh @benc53 that "safe for any tool" line is a huge red flag now. I always keep a couple chunks of 6061 scrap near the machine to test any new feeds or speeds before I touch a real part.
