Hit 1000 lines of code in my first real project, now what?
I've been learning Python off and on for about 6 weeks, mostly following tutorials and messing with small exercises. Then last Friday I decided to build a simple habit tracker from scratch, no guide, just me and the docs. By Sunday night I had written 1,047 lines of code and it actually runs without errors, which honestly shocked me. The weird part is I still feel like I don't know what I'm doing, like it's just glue and hope holding it together. Has anyone else crossed a line count milestone and realized the code was messier than they thought?
Wait, why do you think messy code at 1,000 lines is a problem? That's normal and honestly kind of the point. Six weeks in and you built something that runs on your own, that is a huge deal and the "glue and hope" feeling never really goes away, not at 1k lines and not at 50k. Code that looks messy today is just code you have not had to change yet, and when it breaks you will learn more fixing it than you ever would from a tutorial. Chasing clean code too early usually just means you sit around renaming things instead of building. Ship the messy thing, use it for a month, and let the real bugs tell you what to clean up.
