Hot take: Coding with my nephew beats his usual video game time

I got him to try a beginner coding site last week instead of playing games. He spent hours making a simple story game and learned more than from any school lesson. Shouldn't we push kids towards creating stuff instead of just consuming it?

That's awesome he got into it. I just wouldn't frame it as creation instead of consumption. Good games are their own kind of creative work to learn from. Both have value.

Found playing games taught me the basics first. Then I started making simple ones myself.
