Started with Python, tried to switch to C++ for a game project, and it was a total disaster for a newbie like me.

Actually, I've seen a lot of first tries that are way rougher than what you're probably talking about, @knight.mason. People tend to forget how messy starting something new really is. Calling it normal might make someone feel like their effort wasn't special. It's better to point out one specific thing they did right. That kind of feedback sticks with you and actually helps more.

Totally get that. My first C++ program tried to make a text game and it just crashed for no clear reason for three days straight. Memory leaks everywhere, pointers pointing to who knows what. Felt like trying to build a house while the bricks kept changing shape. That switch from Python is a real wall to hit.
