Watching a barista at a cafe in Portland fix a broken card reader made me finally get why functions work
I was sitting in this spot on Alberta St when the reader died, and the guy just swapped in a new chunk of code to handle the payment without touching the rest of the register. It hit me that a function is just a named chunk you can drop in whenever you need it, and I finally wrote my first real one that night. Does anyone else learn better from watching stuff break in real life than from tutorials?
