Heard a barista say 'coffee is just a vehicle for milk and sugar' and it's been bugging me

Honestly, I was grabbing a cup in Omaha and the guy at the counter said it like it was a fact. Tbh, it made me realize how many people never taste the actual bean. Anyone else get annoyed when folks treat coffee like a blank canvas?

Totally, I watched someone dump four sugars into a single shot yesterday.

Oh my god, that's insane! I saw something similar last week, a person stirred three packets of raw sugar into a tiny espresso cup. It wasn't even dissolved, it was just this gritty sludge at the bottom. How can you even taste the coffee at that point? It's just hot sugar water with extra steps. Does that not just completely wreck your teeth thinking about it?

Honestly it feels like a lot of people just use coffee as a delivery system for sugar now. They're not even trying to taste the roast, they just want a caffeine and sugar hit. Makes you wonder why they bother buying coffee at all.
