My French press broke last Tuesday so I tried the sock method from a buddy in Seattle

I was making my morning coffee and the plunger just snapped right in half. My friend from Seattle always raves about using a cloth filter called a sock for his pour overs. I dug out an old clean t-shirt and rigged it over my mug. It actually made a super smooth cup with no grit, but cleanup was a mess. Has anyone else tried this hack or am I just being cheap?

Respectfully, fabric filters mute the flavor in my experience.

Man I've been there, ripped a cheap press apart with my own hands. The t-shirt trick is genius but yeah, cleaning it is a hassle. I switched to a reusable cloth filter that's basically a coffee sock you buy online, works way better than a shirt and you just rinse it out. No more broken glass for me, just clean cups and a quick shake in the sink.

You ripped a cheap press apart with your own hands? That sounds like something I'd do after a bad day at work. Honestly I'm surprised the glass didn't explode everywhere first.
