Shoutout to the barista at the shop on 5th who made me admit my $400 grinder was wasted on me
I always figured better gear meant better coffee, so I dropped $400 on a fancy flat burr grinder about 6 months ago and my cups still tasted flat. Last Tuesday I was standing at the counter at the place on 5th in Columbus complaining about it, and the barista there, Maria, asked one thing: what water was I using. I said tap, straight from the sink. She just nodded and said her shop spent two weeks chasing a sour taste that turned out to be the water, not the beans. I grabbed a $2 gallon of spring water on the way home and the same beans suddenly tasted sweet, no other change at all. So now I'm curious, how many of you actually mess with your water, and what do you use?
