The broken spout at my local diner made me switch to French press

I go to this place called Mel's every Sunday for breakfast and they have this big commercial Bunn brewer that's been there since the 80s. Last week the glass carafe spout chipped off a little piece right into my coffee. The waitress just shrugged and said it happens sometimes. I couldn't stop thinking about all the tiny glass bits I might have drank over the years. So I went home and dug out my old French press my sister gave me five years ago. Got some coarse ground beans from the market and tried it yesterday morning. It takes more time but the coffee actually tastes better and I don't have to worry about broken glass. Has anyone else switched methods because of a specific incident at a restaurant?

oh man my buddy dan had a similar thing happen at this bagel place, a chunk of ceramic from their old mug ended up in his mouth and he switched to a stainless steel travel mug after that. now he brings his own coffee everywhere, says he cant trust restaurant cups anymore.

Wait, does your buddy Dan just carry the mug around empty hoping someone will offer him coffee, or does he have a whole thermos situation going on? Because I can totally see myself becoming that person, lugging a stainless steel tank everywhere and getting weird looks at diners. Honestly though, with my luck I'd probably drop the travel mug and chip my tooth on the lid instead.
