The great espresso channeling mystery took me 6 months to crack

I kept getting channeling in my shots no matter what I did. Changed grind size, distribution, tamp pressure, nothing worked for 6 months. Turns out my shower screen was slightly loose and letting water pool on one side. Took me an trip to a cafe in Portland where the barista spotted it in 5 seconds. Anyone else have a dumb fix that took way longer to discover than it should have?

6 months? I'd say that's just bad luck, not a "dumb fix.
