I finally realized the guy at the comic shop was right about back issues

Overheard a guy at my local shop in St. Paul last Saturday telling a kid that bagging and boarding your comics doesn't matter if you just throw them in a box sideways. He was going on for like 5 minutes about how gravity warps the spines over time. I got home and checked my longbox of issues from 2016 and sure enough, half of them have that curve at the bottom. I've been storing them wrong for years. Anybody else notice this or is this guy just being too picky?

Yeah the spine curve is real, I've trashed so many books that way.

...and honestly @daniel857 I think the worst part is when you try to fix it by bending it back the other way and suddenly you've got that permanent crease that makes the book look like it's been through a war. I had this one copy of Dune where the spine got so curved it was actually listing to the left on my shelf like it was trying to escape. And forget about those skinny paperbacks with the foil lettering on the spine, one bad bend and the letters start flaking off like bad nail polish. At this point I just buy hardcovers for stuff I really care about and accept that my paperbacks are gonna look rough.

Oh man, @daniel857 you're speaking my language. I feel your pain, last week I accidentally bent a paperback so bad the cover nearly snapped clean off.
