I swore off event comics for years, but one storyline pulled me back in

I used to HATE big crossover events because they felt like cash grabs that messed up my favorite series. Every summer, I'd see the ads and groan, knowing I'd have to buy a dozen books just to follow one story. Last year, though, a buddy lent me his copies of 'Secret Wars' and insisted I give it a shot. I rolled my eyes but started reading, and slowly, the scope of it hooked me. Seeing all these characters I love interact in such a wild setting was actually pretty cool. Now I realize that events can be a fun way to shake things up, even if they're a pain to collect. It's made me more open to trying stuff outside my comfort zone, which is a big deal for a lifelong fan like me. Sometimes you gotta let go of the old grudges to enjoy what's out there.

Pretty sure that was Wally West in Heroes in Crisis, not Barry. Easy mix up though.

Secret Wars was a wild one for sure, it actually managed to make the chaos work. I still groan at most events because the tie-ins are such a cash grab, but you're right that the best ones can make it feel worth the hassle. Even a messy event like Heroes in Crisis had that one great Flash issue buried in there, which is kind of the appeal. It's about finding those cool character moments in the middle of the giant mess.

Nah, the tie-ins always feel like a chore.
