My cousin told me to skip the new X-Men run for a year
He said the first arc was just setup and the good stuff wouldn't start until issue 12. I waited, borrowed his trades, and he was right, saved me about $50. Do you guys ever hold off on a series based on a tip like that?

Skip for a year" is a solid tip. I do that with some TV shows, wait for the whole season. Saves money and you can binge it.
