My local shop's 'damaged bin' is a goldmine for variant covers

I was hunting for a specific X-Men #25 variant and found it with a tiny spine tick for $8, marked down from $40. The owner told me he puts returns or slightly dinged books there every Friday morning. Anyone else have a good local shop trick for finding specific issues?

Yeah, that shipment timing is KEY. My guy even holds stuff for me if he knows I'm hunting a specific run.
