TIL that variant covers are actually worth hunting after a guy at a Portland show traded me a key issue straight up
I used to think variant covers were just a money grab and I would skip them at my local shop in Portland every single week. Last month at the Rose City Comic Show a guy named Dave saw me flip past a $4 variant and asked why I hated them. I told him they felt like a scam but he pulled out his phone and showed me sold listings where that same cover went for $60 just 8 months after release. He said he funds his whole pull list by grabbing one variant a month and sitting on it, and he traded me a nice key issue right there for two variants I had in my box. Now I check the variant wall before anything else and I have grabbed 5 in the last 3 weeks. Does anyone else buy variants just to flip, or am I late to this?
