Trying to find a specific panel from a 90s X-Men comic took me three days

I was trying to show a friend the exact moment Cyclops gets his visor back after the Phalanx Covenant. I knew it was in an issue of X-Men from around 1994, but I couldn't remember which number. I went through my long boxes, then online databases, and even old forum posts. I must have skimmed through 30 different issues before I finally found it in X-Men #38. Do you guys have a better system for tracking down a single scene, or is it always this much of a hunt?

Yeah, that hunt for one panel is the worst. I once wasted a whole afternoon trying to find the page where Wolverine says "I'm the best there is" to Sabretooth. Turns out it was in a random What If issue. Do you keep any kind of notes or a list for those iconic moments, or is it all just in your head?

Three days sounds about right for a deep dive like that. My system is basically just accepting that I'll lose an entire weekend whenever I get a specific comic panel stuck in my head. I've spent hours looking for a single frame before, only to find it was in an annual I totally forgot about. The worst is when you finally find it and your friend just goes "oh, cool." Makes you want to use the optic blast yourself, right?

Actually, that "oh cool" reaction feels like a win to me!
