Yeah they all had that same vibe, like stale cigarettes and failed life choices. Reminds me of that time I went to a speed dating thing at a dive bar and every person there looked like they'd just crawled out of a tax audit. The whole room just had this cloud of regret hanging over it, thick enough to cut with a butter knife.

Oh man, you nailed it! I went to one of those networking mixers once and it was like everyone just gave up on life years ago but still showed up out of habit.
