I finally dumped my wingman rule after a job in Port Arthur last month
Last month I was doing a dock inspection in Port Arthur and the tender kept telling me the standby diver was fine because he was on the radio every 10 minutes. I waved him off and had the standby splash right next to me for the whole 40 minute pull, just to see how it felt. Turns out having a body 6 feet away instead of a voice in my ear changed how fast I caught a snag on my umbilical, like maybe 15 seconds instead of a minute of talking it out. I used to think the radio check was enough to cover me, which is dumb when you say it out loud. Anyone else had a tender push back when you ask for a wet standby instead of a dry one?
