I finally hit 500 hours on my Kirby Morgan 37 helmet and the service log surprised me
Just got the log back from the shop in Seattle and the internal parts wear was way more than I expected, especially the exhaust valve. I was pushing the recommended service interval by about 50 hours thinking it was fine. Anyone else had a specific piece of gear tell them they were cutting it too close?

Used to think those service intervals were just suggestions. Seeing that kind of wear on paper really makes you follow the schedule.

Yeah, that "seeing the wear on paper" thing is so real. My buddy had a similar shock with his regulator first stage last year. He went maybe 30 hours past the service window, figured it was just a money grab. The tech showed him the main seat, and it was completely chewed up, way worse than it should have been. He said it looked like it could have failed on the next dive. Totally changed how he looks at those dates now.

Totally get your buddy thinking it was a money grab, I used to be the same way. Had a similar thing with my BCD inflator, the inside was all corroded and I had NO idea. Seeing it in your hand is a whole different story.
