The week I fought 20 feet of zero visibility and still got the job done
Last month off the coast of Newport we had a stretch of four days where the water was so muddy you couldn't see your own gauges. First day I nearly panicked when my hand slipped off a valve I was trying to close blind. Second day I started using a rope grid to feel my way along the pier supports. By the third day I had it down to a system. Has anyone else figured out a good trick for working in silted out water?

Try using a rope with knots spaced every foot, works like braille for your hands.

That sounds interesting, but how would you keep the rope from tangling or getting caught on stuff while you move? Seems like you'd need both hands free to manage it, or maybe tie it to your belt loop or something. Do you just let it drag behind you, or is there a trick to keeping it straight and ready to grab?
