Thought I knew how to tie a knot until a dive buddy showed me my carabiner was backwards on my lift bag last week in Port Townsend
He just pointed and said 'you're gonna drop that whole crate of scallops' and sure enough it slipped off when I tested it on the dock - has anyone else ever had a basic gear setup fail on them because you were rushing through pre-dive checks?

Figured I was careful enough too till my lift bag nearly floated away without me.

Whoa, a lift bag nearly floated away without you? That's honestly terrifying to picture! I mean, you don't think about it until it's too late, but once that bag goes, your whole setup is done for the day. I'd probably have a heart attack watching my gear drift off into the abyss. Huge respect to you for catching it in time, because I bet that was a frantic few seconds underwater.
