TIL that the deepest commercial dive on record is over 2,000 feet. Just read it in an old IMCA safety bulletin from 2018.

Yeah those depths are no joke. The real kicker is the decompression time, you're looking at over a week in the chamber for a dive like that. Makes you respect the planning that goes into every single bell run. Honestly the biggest risk factor is complacency, even on routine jobs.

My buddy worked on a saturation dive system rated for half that depth and the stories he told were just wild.

Oh man, @michaelf51, I believe it... heard a story once about a diver who had to wait out a storm on the bottom for two days straight. Just sitting there in the dark.
